(Blog 21) Thursday, October 6: Ms. Azure and Mrs. Locke

(Continued from our last post…)

The week had brought unexpected excitement to the town of Scalesville and the students at Scalesville High. Pip and Spyder found Baby Belle, the child dragon that had been missing for weeks and believed to be dead. The Homecoming race was interrupted by the news, but Lena was announced the official senior Queen, beating Sienna for the crown. Hecubum, the Webster that was assigned to the press release, was working to make arrangements for a town-wide celebration for Pip and Spyder, and Belle’s safe return home.

Thursday Morning Before School, Pip’s House: The phone rang as Ms. Azure was wiping her opal reflective scales with a daily polishing cream. She wiped her claws on a towel and picked up the receiver.

“This is Blusha.”

“Hi Blusha, it’s Chelsea Locke, Spyder’s mom.”

“Oh, hi Chelsea. Everything alright on this early morning?”

“Yes… I think… Well, time will tell. I just got a call from Hecubum Horne. He said Belle was taken to the emergency room last night for observation. Her health has made a turn for the worse. It’s possible the medical team may have overlooked internal injuries during her initial examination. Hecubum requested a meeting with the boys and their parents to talk about how to handle the upcoming celebration... considering Belle’s condition.”

Ms. Azure stiffened her neck and back, her voice firm but calm. “I see. Well, I think that’s completely unnecessary.”

“Oh?”

“Look, I understand wanting to include them, but Pip and Spyder aren’t officials. They’re kids. They found her and that’s incredible. But I don’t think dragging them into a meeting about hospital updates and public events is healthy right now. Pip needs space to process, not more pressure.”

“I disagree,” rebutted Mrs. Locke. “They found her, Blusha. They deserve to know what’s happening. You can’t shield teenagers from life, especially when they’ve been a part of something this big.”

“Of course they deserve to know, but it’s not healthy to entertain this drama. Ms. Azure countered gently, as her tail flickered with annoyance. “Let them have a few days to process before throwing them back into chaos. Pip needs to return to school and a normal routine, not a meeting where his presence won’t change the outcome. It’s not his job to manage Belle’s recovery.”

Chelsea hesitated. “I don’t think that’s what Hecubum intended…”

“Even so,” Ms. Azure cut in gently, “The boys have done their part. I won’t be attending that meeting, and neither will Pip. Thank you for the update, Chelsea.”

The finality in her tone convinced Mrs. Locke to surrender her stance.

“Alright,” Chelsea said slowly. “I’ll let Hecubum know.”

“Thanks, Chelsea. You have a blessed day.”

Click.

Ms. Azure set the phone down, checked the time, and called down the hallway. “Pip, you need to get going! You’re going to miss first bell!”
