9:33AM: Knock. Knock. KNOCK!!!

Pop, pop, knock, knock…

Deep in the lush jungle, Pip was locked in battle, just about to take down the main boss when the humidity lifted and the trees around him began to pale as they dissolved into a choking white fog. “Pip, Pippp”, he heard screaming in the distance. The pops and booms continued on through the fog until it became apparent that they were sounds from reality. Pip jarred awake, groaned and muttered a complaint to himself.

Knock, knock, knock…“Pip, open the door.”

He rolled off the couch and army crawled to the window to peek through the blinds. “What in the…?” he said quietly, and then walked across the room to crack open the door. “Mother, what are you…?”

The moment the door opened, Blusha pushed herself through break and shoved a piece of paper hard against his chest. Her wings and arms flailed like a toddler having a tantrum.

“Pip, you worthless little snake. How could you do this to me?”

“Um, nice to see you too.” Pip looked at the paper, which was actually a bill addressed to Blusha Azure from a video game company Pip had been subscribed to for years.

“I don’t… understand.” He said

“Oh you think this is funny. You’re going to try to play dumb? You’ve always tried to ruin me, Pip. I don’t know who you think you are. I knew I should have left your egg with him and spared myself the trouble. No good deed goes unpunished.”

“Wha…Mom, I really don’t know what’s going on. What are you taking about?”

“Your aunt has really made you worthless, you know. You lazy lizard. Sleeping til however long you want, wasting your life playing video games and charging up my accounts..” She said jabbing a talon at the paper. “If you don’t have that paid by the end of the month, I’m taking legal action. I’m dating a lawyer and he won’t go easy on you just because we’re family.”

And with that, Blusha took to the sky lifting herself off the ground as she continued to flail her arms, yelling accusations and profanities that managed to still be heard even when he could no longer see her.

Pip stood in the doorway, the paper crumpled slightly in his claws. His eyes were fixed on the number at the bottom of the invoice - $2,952.18. Nearly three thousand? His stomach dropped. He didn’t know what step to take first, but one thing was for sure - it was time to get a job.
