June Review - The Month of Strategy

Continuing on with concerns that I noticed in May, I’m working to be more active in speaking about Chatty Dragons. In hindsight, I do believe it would have made more sense to work on content development for 6 months to a year before launching the business, but there’s no going back now. An obvious restrictor of growth is the amount of time I have to put my efforts into Chatty Dragons.

I am a mom of a homeschooler, a private schooler, wife, and part-time graphic design and marketing freelancer. I have several systems in place to schedule and execute content for this business, but I am still the main force behind it with my daughter illustrating the characters. It is becoming increasingly difficult to grow a business organically online (for anyone) with AI readers, constant changes to social media algorithms, and the weird changes that continue with Google (👈🏼 there, I said it).

I don’t have a lot of money to throw at the business. I ran a very small paid Google ad ($3/day) last month and it did increase traffic to my website, but it didn’t increase conversion so essentially the money spent gave no return. My priority KPI right now is still obtaining new subscribers and growing a following.

June’s priorities were:

🧡 Pick the fan submission and announce the winner for Summer Release
🧡 Nora drew Ashley (our fan winner) and prep her design to order stickers
🧡 Schedule a month’s worth of posts on socials to promote the podcast, free download, and new characters
🧡 Research guest speaking opportunities on podcasts to promote the business
🧡 Record and publish two podcasts on Spotify, Apple Podcast, and Amazon Music
🧡 Ordered new stickers for the Summer Release

It’s not about ideas. It’s about making ideas happen.

A few takeaways from June:

🧡 I met a fellow podcaster via Reddit and we had a pregame call to talk about a recording for her show. I really enjoy talking about the heart behind Chatty Dragons and I am comfortable speaking in a podcast format (something I’ve done as a guest a few times in the past). If I’m honest, I struggle to think that anyone wants to listen but I believe a path has been drawn to all of this madness that adds purpose to what I’m doing. I do believe the Lord is keeping me aligned to grow Chatty Dragons - I just have to figure out what works.

Are you on this journey too? If so, let’s connect. I’ve love to commiserate and encourage each other.

- Promising to keep it real and transparent, Amanda
