May Review - The Month of Curiosity
May has raised some questions that’s gotten me to put on my detective hat and channel my inner Spyder, detective dragon. Jinny, my SEO SCORE mentor has been helping me trouble shoot where users are getting lost on the website. We are in our 6th solid month now and I’m starting to see a trend. People come to our website, engagement time is really high (usually around 2 mins per session), but conversion and return is low. My priority KPI (key performance indicator) right now is “obtaining new subscribers”. There is a correlation between returning users and number of subscribers.
Brainstorming a few reasons we could be losing our audience:
1. We are still in the early stages of start-up: We are not established in the marketplace as a reliable source of entertainment. Not enough brand recognition. Only time and the limitations of my marketing resources will solve this.
2. People are getting lost in the blog: I personally believe this is it. The numbers reflect this and now I am trouble shooting a solution to make the story more accessible.
3. Need more animations and illustrations: I do believe the more we add dragons and designs to the site, the variety will add to the appeal. Heavy animation is out of reach for now, and I don’t think this is the answer to the immediate problem that I am facing.
This months priorities were:
🧡 Finalized the three dragon files for Summer Release
🧡 Made an appeal and was able to set up my Google Business Profile.
🧡 Restructured the H tags on the website to improve SEO
🧡 Narrowed down social media focus to omit Instagram and TikTok.
🧡 Recorded and published two podcasts on Spotify, Apple Podcast, and Amazon Music.
🧡 Added a video podcast to our YouTube channel.
🧡 Sent out more emails about the characters, not specific to the blog
🧡 Spoke with an IP (Intellectual Property) Attorney and began the process to copywrite our characters and stories.
🧡 Created a Character Map as a freebie for new subscribers.
G4A report for lead generation May 2025.
A few takeaways from May:
🧡 I am my own worst client. As a creative professional, it has always been true that the hardest person to design for is yourself. The same is true in marketing.
In June, I have been tasked by my mentor to develop a tangible marketing plan. (I know. I know. I should have already done this.) I’ll also create a written customer persona and stay consistent to problem solve what is keeping us from growth. The truth is, I find myself mentally drained and wonder if the effort is worth it. I’m a mom of two teenagers (one who homeschools), a domestic wife, and I work other contract jobs through my business.
It’s fascinating how much we are influenced by hype we see on social media. Every influencer has the next big promise for a plan to success. But an influencer is just that - there to influence you.
“The road to success is always under construction.”
If you’re not in it for the long work, then you’re not in it. If you’re on this side-gig, business journey with me, let’s connect. I’ve love to hear what you’ve learned along the way.
- Promising to keep it real and transparent, Amanda
